When you touch your face, does your complexion feel smooth and soft or like sand paper? The surface skin layer can become clogged with damaged skin cells that can make your complexion uneven and dull. At Sheer Beauty Medical Skin Care, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ben Childers performs medical spa services like nonsurgical skin resurfacing using microdermabrasion. Effective and fast, microdermabrasion removes the upper layer of dead skin cells so your face is healthier and brighter. This procedure may be performed on its own or along with a complementary skin treatment, such as a chemical peel or dermal filler, for greater results. At your initial consultation at one of our Inland Empire locations, Dr. Childers will develop a custom treatment plan based on your concerns and goals.

Microdermabrasion may reduce the visibility of blemishes on the skin's surface such as fine lines, uneven skin texture, dull skin tone, sun damage, scars, and clogged pores. It is appropriate for men and women of every skin type and tone that would like clearer, healthier skin. These treatments are typically used on the face; however, it may also be performed on the skin on your neck, chest, and hands. Microdermabrasion shouldn't be used on skin with an open wound or a chronic skin condition, such as rosacea or acne.
Microdermabrasion is done at our offices following a consultation with Dr. Ben Childers. During the procedure, you will be asked to sit back in a comfortable chair as the skin to be treated is prepared and cleaned. The handpiece will be passed along your skin as it both exfoliates and sucks up the dead skin and crystals. Although the process may feel rough, it is not uncomfortable, so you shouldn't need a local anesthetic or numbing cream. The microdermabrasion will be performed evenly in the selected areas, but with extra care in delicate areas like around the eyes. After the treatment is done, your skin will be cleaned to get rid of any leftover debris before a moisturizer, chosen for your skin's needs with sunscreen, is massaged into the skin.
What to Expect
Following your treatment, you may continue your regular day, but you need to apply some form of sun protection since the treated skin will be susceptible to sun damage. Your skin will feel softer and the tone will be more even. To prolong the results of your treatment, Dr. Childers suggests having microdermabrasion once every 4 – 6 weeks. Most Sheer Beauty Medical Skin Care patients feel that after microdermabrasion, their skin care products (particularly creams and lotions) soak easily into the skin for more effective results.
